AJ is super sweet, polydactyl.  It takes AJ about a week to settle in a new home, he will appear nervous and fussy around other animals and people at first.  He needs time to  learn to trust you as we believe he was hit by people before.  So it will take a little time to create a bond with him in which he feels safe. He is very hand shy especially a flat hand going towards his face, perhaps from being hit that way in the past.

He does better the longer he is with you but prefers pets from the side of his head instead of straight on. He also prefers to smell your hand as a way to get to know you and once he does enjoys a good face rub and her head scratch. You need to watch his body language to tell when he isn’t feeling the attention, generally will pull his face back and mostly tap his tail when irritated. These are times if you go to touch him he is more likely to smack with his paw or give a warning nip. If you give him his space when he does that he settles and doesn’t lash out.

AJ does well around laid-back cats, he actually loves to play but can be rough and tumble so would need a cat that would be ok with the same.  If a cat is fussy with him we will smack at them in disapproval. He’s done fine with calm dogs in his foster home.  Once he settled in he often approached us for attention, even laying on the couch during TV time and snuggling in next to you to sleep at night. If you have the love and patience for this beautiful guy, complete your application today!
