Domestic Short Hair / Mixed (short coat) : : Male : : Young : : Medium
Fitz is a very special kitten. He caught a cold that persisted for some time, even with treatment, that lead to a severe ear infection. The infection, despite aggressive and ongoing treatment, left him with a head tilt due to some permanent damage in his inner ear. Despite his crooked view of the world, Fitz is the happiest, most playful kitten of the bunch! He loves to run and frolic with his foster pals, but does sometimes run into things and gets himself stuck in high places. When he does get stuck, his foster mom has to be careful to make him feel as stable as possible when moving him, or his ear problems keep him from figuring out which end is up and he'll panic, sometimes clawing in an attempt to catch himself so he doesn't feel like he's tumbling through space. When held firmly, Fitz loves to be picked up and snuggles into his foster's shoulder and neck, purring up a storm. His purr-meows and squeaks throughout the day let us know he's a happy little guy! Fitz is about halfway through his last round of antibiotics and steroids to insure the infection that caused the head tilt doesn't recur. Except for the permanent head tilt, no other long-term issues are expected to result. Fitz did take a tumble at some point that broke a couple vertebra in his tail, resulting in a "candy cane" kink at the end, which only makes him more adorable. Fitz does very well with the other foster kittens and permanent adult cats in his foster home. It is unknown how he would do around dogs, but he's young enough that he could probably adapt quickly.
